Kane silently wished that there was a way to side-step around the question, but he'd backed himself into a corner.
Act casual, the voice in his head warned, and he forced himself to relax.
"We, uh...we met about a month ago," he explained, crushing out the cigarette and tucking the butt back in its box, "kind of a common interest thing. He's mentioned you, that's how I know who you are."
But the falling out he'd had with Vlad had created a lot of stress for Kane, so he wasn't exactly in a position to expound on his relationship with the man. He didn't want to risk it getting back to Vlad in any way.
"Well...you must do a pretty good job, because he keeps you working for him. Right?"
