Kane finally folded the corner of his page down and set the book aside, standing up and flicking ash sideways, to be sure it didn't blow back toward Peter.
"Kylling." He offered, when Peter commented about him not using his last name. He knew it was a joke, but he never used his surname. Not even Luca knew it. "It just sounds so ominous, usually I leave it out."
He listened, and nodded slightly, mustering another small smile at the joke.
"Lawyer," he mused, putting his free hand in the pocket of his jeans to keep the cold out, "well, yeah. That's Vlad's way, I guess. He doesn't like to give a lot of credit, huh?"
It wasn't his business, but Vlad had rubbed him the wrong way when he'd snapped at him a week before, so he felt that it was his prerogative to say whatever he wanted. If he could have an ally in Peter, then he'd get a leg up in the future, if that was what the future called for.
