Shane had decided, uncharacteristically, to take the elevator. Usually he didn't bother--the elevator was both slow and unpredictable. Today, however, he decided to give it another shot, see if it had improved in the months since he'd last used it.
Apparently not, considering it delivered Vlad directly to his floor. When the doors opened and he saw him there, he appeared unfazed. Instead of turning and taking the stairs, or hitting the button to close the door, he stepped on, ignoring the dogs and standing close to the back of the elevator, unwilling to leave his back to Vlad. He said nothing. He had nothing to say, no conversation to make with him.
