After she left Samuel, Helena kept her eyes peeled for one last man in the crowd. She had wondered where Edward was, although she was a bit shaky on what he actually looked like. She remembered him from her dream but even there he kept shifting faces. She looked around for some sign of him but still she came up with nothing. She hoped he was okay, safe and sound, and she had nothing but worry on her mind as moved through the crowd of people. When she finally found Vlad again, her make up was a tad more smudged at the corners of her eyes. It seemed the gravity of the situation, of the end of it all, finally had settled upon her and she was in much sadder spirits than when she left him.
The dogs heard her approach and trotted up to her, following until she finally stood beside Vlad. Even though they were outside, they were alone now, and she slipped her arms around him without hesitation. After all these farewells, she wanted to hold the one person who wasn’t going away. Her head came to rest on his shoulder but her eyes still took in the wreckage that was once their home. She was silent, simply taking comfort in his presence and it was several long minutes before she finally spoke. “What shall we do now?”
