Cole shook his head, biting down on his tongue to keep from saying something he'd regret. She still didn't get it, did she? Meeting him wasn't a good thing - it was a bad thing. It was probably the worst joke the building had played on them. Their relationship had never been easy, but it wasn't just because of normal reasons like differing personalities. Oh no, they'd had to deal with full moon transformations, being sent back in time, and fucking cannibals. No matter what he did he never seemed to be able to keep her safe, and honestly he thought they spent most of their relationship either upset or heartbroken. And who was the one who caused her all that pain? Him.
"Yeah." He laughed, although it was lacking in humor. "Look how far knowing me has gotten you, Illy." As soon as the words were out he winced, because he really didn't want to go over all that here. Not now. "Look, just... never mind. The building is gone, and we have to figure things out, but it can wait." He cast a glance around the small but rapidly growing group. "Is there anyone you want to... look for?"
