"I do - but that's not the point," he said quickly, feeling more and more like he was dealing with some kind of rabid animal instead of a human being. How could he have let things get so bad for his friend without doing anything about it? Max could have told the entire building about how he was a murderer if he wanted to, but instead he'd vowed to protect his secret even when he had other problems of his own to deal with. Vlad didn't feel guilt very often, and what he felt right now was the closest thing to it that he'd experienced in a while.
"No, you are right, it's not my job... but it is what friends do, and I should have done it because you do happen to be my friend." He let his gaze wander over his bruised knuckles and clawed skin as he spoke, wincing a little at how frenzied he seemed. The fact that he was probably drunk didn't help matters either.
Vlad fought to keep the dismay out of his expression, instead attempting to remain calm and rational - if Max couldn't be that himself, then he would have to be it for him. "So Brian knows about Hyde, but not you specifically." It was a problem, especially if this was a reflection of Brian's mental state as well. "I... there is nothing that can stop the transformations, so he was bound to find out eventually. But this is not the end. There's still hope... you hurting people might not be the best way to go about it, though. It's bound to just make Brian even more upset."
