Gabby's disbelief at the building doing a song and dance made Joanie shrug. "Weirder stuff has happened." Which was true. They had a Queen Guinevere that turned her apartment into a scene out of Hostel, a wolf that eats people, and enough soap opera drama to run five TV shows. Really, a sentient building trying to get on the new peoples' good side wasn't that far-fetched in comparison.
She tensed when she realized that Gabby was looking directly at her bruise, and cursed herself for prodding at the area. "None of us understand," she said. When she asked about June, Joanie sighed. "Yeah. It's when we all went on the vacation from Hell."
As Gabby got her coffee, Joanie bristled. "I'm not telling you to move because I want all the crazy for myself. I'm giving you advice that might actually save your ass if you listened to it." It was just like college. Joanie had something valid to say, and Gabby was too far up on her high horse to even bother. "This place? Is dangerous. You're protecting yourself if you leave."
