Cole had no idea what Archer was thinking, but it wasn't really the time for an in-depth conversation about their feelings. Instead he just dug, not making a single sound as he tossed aside shovelful after shovelful of hard-packed dirt. It was a methodical process, and he focused on that instead of the fact that a young man was dead in a bag beside him. Maybe they were meant to follow their stories after all. Maybe, in the end, what was supposed to happen caught up with them. In his case, it meant he would disappear; in the story Ichabod had just vanished instead of explicitly being killed.
He almost didn't hear Archer, turning to him with faint confusion before registering his words. "Oh. Alright." He handed off the shovel and took a seat on the ground, taking a deep breath in an attempt to calm himself.
