Iris didn't much think of it as abandonment. She was perfectly capable of taking care of herself (or convinced of it, anyway) and she told herself it was mostly concerned about where Evan had taken himself off to. For trouble, no doubt. Looked like she'd been right, too.
Iris made a face at the word 'inestimable.' She was not a great fan of literature, preferring non-fiction to fancy, but she had a good general understanding of most cultures that used roman lettering. She nodded at his mention of the count. "It matches," she said, nodding again as if to herself. "Yes. You can brood quite a lot if you don't pay attention." She smiled at him, a little rusty at first and then broadening with flickers of affection. "I'm glad to see it hasn't run you into too much trouble yet." She raised her eyebrows slightly, fishing for more information about his present situation.
