"Great," she murmured when Hannah confirmed that their business was finished here. James' lack of enthusiasm was at least warm by her sincerity in that single word. She brought her shoulders up in a clueless, lax shrug that conveyed how little to had to add to the Lotte discussion. Part of her wondered how out of touch she'd been, how had she never known that Lotte wanted to adopt a pet, or that she was visiting shelters? Rather than grow perturbed about it, James drew a deep breath and pushed herself loose from the comfort of the couch cushions.
"Thanks for coming by.." Because what else was left to say? James started toward the door, in order to politely escort Hannah out. Then, halfway across the living room carpet, she pivoted suddenly on the balls of her feet and pinned the blond neighbor with a curious stare.
Blue storm eyes caught beneath the weight of a smudged squint, "Are you seeing anyone?"
