Who: Xavier and Sam
What: Business talk. Oh and power disabling.
Where: 904
When: June 24th, 8:00 PM
Warnings: Swearing?
Notes: Xavier gave Sam a call, assumed ooc, switching their visit from Monday to Thursday. Timelines suck.

He didn’t expect much of the visit – it was business, just related to the building. He’d done a bit of research on Madin’s zoo, digging deeper than what the press releases said. He had a few guesses on what was going on there, but didn’t really care. In his opinion, humans came before animals. He didn’t advocate animal cruelty, but in the name of the right cause – well, this was science and improving lives. Some sacrifices had to be made.

Leaving his apartment at five-to, Xavier was perfectly on time when he showed at Sam’s door. A picture placed on the wall offered enough of a reflection for him to check his illusion – he had not done anything in the world of his “usual” disguises or changed his clothing. While in reality he wore a casual pants and a collarless shirt, he looked like he was dressed in slacks and a dress shirt. The joy of it? He didn’t even sweat from the clothes. His eyes were dark and his nose slightly more curved than usual – and he looked, a tad healthier than he usually did. Some things, not even time could fix. Make-up or these illusions could hide his pallor, nothing else worked.

Satisfied, he knocked on the door, ready for whatever would occur.

"Definitely," Sam agreed, exhaling in a whoosh. "They sort of have to be. I mean, no man is an island, right? People can't thrive when isolated from others." He paused, rubbing the back of his neck. "Philosophy wasn't my thing, but I like psychology, and the two often go hand in hand."

"That's what they say," Xavier said. His smile said that he agreed, but he wasn't sure. After all, he'd managed alright without anyone - beyond Iris and Abraham - over the years. He'd taken on the roles needed in order to survive. People may do better when around others - but it wasn't impossible.

"Just take that guy from Cast Away. He started talking to a volleyball to keep from going completely nuts and cried when it 'died,'" Sam said jokingly, getting up to wash out his beer bottle and toss it in the recycle bin - he tried to remember to do that. The recycling center wasn't far from where he worked anyway. "Alright, so try your thing again," he added, coming back into the living room. He made a conscious decision to not invoke any strange magical erasers, and sat on his hands. "Let's see if it works now. Maybe....hmmm...Barack Obama this time?" He was kidding, clearly, but wow - wouldn't that be handy!

Xavier blinked. The name didn't make sense to him and he supposed it was another one of those things he'd missed during his years in prison. A moment later, he recovered nodding. "Exactly." Hopefully that hadn't been a trick question.

At the request, he raised a brow - even if he'd turned into Harrison Ford the other evening, imitating real people was something he had no desire to do. "If for some reason I became stuck as him, I'd be in a bit of trouble." He didn't move his beer bottle - recycling had never been his concern, simply focusing on the image of himself again. (Funny, how these days Xavier felt normal than Edward did.) Slowly he passed his hand over his eyes and then his nose, before looking up. "Different?"

Sam watched intently, leaned forward with his elbows balanced on his knees. "Uhhh..." He squinted, checking out the eye color. "Yep, they're brown again. How long was that?" Sam noted the time. "An hour? Good to know." He wondered if he could make it last longer if he kept practicing - also, wouldn't that be handy? It's just that he'd have to find other people to practice on.

Xavier visibly relaxed at the confirmation. "Great." He didn't use a hand for his clothes, them changing with the slightest ripple. His coloring changed a bit next, before he finally was how he arrived - Xavier Delamere, Englishman.

He reached for his bottle, putting it on the coffee table with a slight shrug. "About an hour. It's a pleasure to do business with you, but let's forgo the handshake from now on." Personal space boundaries would have to be employed as well. He paused. "I don't have to add, that this can't happen again, right?"

He laughed a little at the handshake comment, picking up the beer bottle and tossing it into the recycle bin from where he sat - ten points! "Nah, I don't see any reason why it should happen again," Sam said cheerfully - meaning, don't give me a reason to use it and I won't. "But sure, we can forgo the handshake. I'll work on that though," he added, thinking it over. There had to be a way to do it mentally, probably with practice too. Otherwise he'd have to start wearing gloves or something.

The meaning of that comment was clear enough and Xavier nodded, amusement settling on his face. "Good. Let's hope it stays that way then." He moved to the door, business concluded and the ability to leave back.

"I'll let you know when the contract's done," he said. "You mind if I let myself out? I've got a busy day tomorrow." His grin was more than rueful, but the reason why couldn't be said. The fact that he was going to see his one-time fiancee for the first time in twelve years? No, it couldn't be important at all.

"Sounds good. And sure, no problem. Thanks for coming over," Sam replied, getting up to see his guest out. Even though every step felt like a katana blade was stuck in between his ribs, it was still the polite thing to do. "If you need anything else..." he shrugged, his hand on the doorknob. Even if Xavier wanted to stop by for more philosophical discussions over beer, that would be perfectly kosher. People who walked around acting like they had it all usually didn't.

People always used that phrase lightly. They hardly meant it seriously - in terms of evading the law, helping commit a crime, saving a life in an emergency. It was in terms of borrowing a cup of sugar or a piece of advice. But Xavier meant it when he said it and would hold others to it as well. His smirk spread and he said, "You as well. With anything at all."

He slipped out the door, before heading out the door. The stairs were climbed quickly and the door unlocked in seconds. Once locked - deadbolted and with several additional precautions, Xavier let his illusions fall once more and let his head slam against the nearest wall.
