Who: Bran and Gabby
What: Visiting, introductions, and awkward fun
Where: 1106
When: The day after this, at 2 {timelines confuse me}
Warnings: Who knows

Bran's initial plan was to be out when Gabrielle or Gabby or whatever the hell she wanted to be called stopped by, but he had the feeling she was the type to persist until she got what she wanted. So he had two choices: either get the visit over with now on his own terms, or prolong it to the point where he ended up being dragged to her apartment. Neither struck him as overly desirable, but if he had to choose then the first was the lesser evil.

He had on jeans and a black t-shirt, refusing to get overdressed or whatever it was that people did when meeting their neighbors for the first time. If he had it his way she would only be in his apartment for half an hour at the most, but it would probably end up being less. He knew how to be a bad conversation partner just as much as he knew how to be a good one, and he'd use every skill available if she became unbearable.

The knock at his door made him roll his eyes, but he wasn't about to pull a five year old 'hide under the covers until the knocking stops', so he headed to the door and pulled it open with a practiced smile. "Gabrielle, right?"

Oh boy! Making new friends! Gabby loved making new friends, especially those of the male persuasion. While she waited for her new best friend to come to the door, she idly played with the amulet around her neck, the one she had invoked protection of mind and body and matta on - matta, meaning loving kindness. Things were getting increasingly strange in the building so she had been reading her religious textbooks more and more, with all of the talk of the full moon. Maybe she could make a friend and get more information about the planet she had landed on. She figured that anyone with a name like Bran had to be tall, dark, and handsome and rather raven-like, and when he opened the door she was not disappointed.

"That would be me," she said cheerfully, eyes taking in the sight of manhunk. "Goodness, Raven, aren't you just a gorgeous, gorgeous man? I bet you get told that a lot though." In one hand she balanced a white box, filled with cupcakes she had baked. "Can I come in?"

The amulet was the first thing he noticed, since most people didn't walk around wearing things like that. She'd said something in her introduction post about Buddhism, hadn't she? His knowledge of religions were non-existent but clearly this woman was the furthest thing from the typical image of a little old monk. It took a mere second for him to size her up, yet even during such a short time frame he noted that sure, she was pretty - but she definitely didn't have a verbal filter. That could get annoying.

Bran raised his eyebrows, hoping that Raven wasn't going to become a permanent nickname. "Not as often as you seem to think," he said wryly, gaze dropping to the white box before he stepped back to let her in. "Of course. It'd be horribly rude of me if I left you standing out in the hallway." He'd reluctantly spent the morning cleaning his apartment to make it presentable, since it was usually in a perpetual state of disarray that only made sense to him.

"That would be rude," Gabby chirped, stepping inside the apartment, a bundle of curly blonde hair, red dress, silver shoes, and just the slightest hint of J'adore perfume. It was her favorite scent for summer. "But I'm glad you decided to be gentlemanly! Oh, your place is really nice," she said, turning to hand Bran the box of delicious dessert. He must have cleaned just for her, how adorable. "I hope you like them," she added with a smile. Dark and mysterious, a special order for her favorite Raven!

Bran shut the door behind her, shrugging as she commented on his apartment. "Thanks. It's probably not as grand as a deluxe or a penthouse, but I can't complain." At least it wasn't one of the lower floor apartments, which weren't too bad - but he'd spent enough time living in crappy little one-room apartments and decided to splurge a little upon moving here.

He hadn't been lying when he said he liked cupcakes, because everyone did. He set the box down on the counter and opened it, his smile turning into laughter when he saw the little skulls and crossbones. Okay, even he had to admit they were a nice touch. "Clever. I almost like them too much to actually eat them." It was an offhand comment, said even as he reached for one and after a moment's pause offered her another. "It's only right that you taste the fruits of your labor too."

Gabby flashed her pearly whites and went ahead and took a skull and crossbones cupcake. "I thoroughly taste-tested the batter," she said, as if confessing some great secret. "But I love to bake. Next time I might be nice and put something cute like music notes on them." She paused, manicured nails delicately peeling the wrapper. "I hope you don't find this too forward, but I was looking at the forums, you know, since talk of the full moon is hot right now and I found a few interesting things about you." Of course she wasn't stalking him, oh no! It was...investigation. Of her hottie neighbor.

Considering the fact that his main source of conversation in the past few weeks had come from James and Lotte, both of whom didn't like or trust him, Gabby was more of a refreshing change rather than the annoyance he was expecting. Incidentally, the cupcakes were actually pretty damn good too, which was a bonus. Maybe he wouldn't have to institute a forum ban on himself after all. "Music notes would be even harder to eat."

Bran was about to ask if she wanted a drink - he did have manners, after all - but froze when she mentioned the forums. Damn, this was going to turn into some kind of Phantom discussion, wasn't it? Somehow he doubted that Gabby was more familiar with the book than the movie version. "Did you?" The question was asked almost carelessly, even though he was trying to remember what things had been public at the same time. "Like what?"

"You announced that you were Erik," Gabby said casually. "It was a rather eloquent announcement, I was impressed! But I was only looking because I wanted to see which one you were." And by 'one' she meant the fable he claimed to be, of course. She probably wouldn't believe that whole counterpart story until it had happened to her for sure, but she was willing to accept the notion that most anything was possible for now.

She leaned against the counter with a bat of the eyelashes. "But anyway! I'm a girl who does my homework, that's all," she teased. "We don't have to talk about that specifically. I'm willing to hear anything you might want to indulge, handsome."

He was never going to stop regretting making that announcement. It had been completely pointless, since he'd done it for Lotte's sake and now she hated him. It had been a mistake, and just thinking about it made him cringe. "Oh, that." It was highly unlikely that Gabby actually believed everything about the fables - new people never did until they were forced to find out how true it was the hard way. "I wouldn't exactly call it eloquent - it was just something I figured I should get out of the way." It was clear from the tone of his voice that he didn't think much of it; plus those lovely fliers hadn't quite been forgotten either.

Erik was the last thing he wanted to talk about, and it didn't feel right to discuss him anyway - almost as though he'd be betraying him somehow. Still, he could be vague without saying anything of importance, and there were always other fables to discuss. "There isn't much to say about Erik," he said with a dismissive shrug. "Now, once upon a time I was new too, and when I was told about these fables I thought it was either some kind of joke or everyone was genuinely insane." He leaned against the counter, raising his eyebrows. "What's your verdict so far?"

Gabby looked surprised at the notion that she was supposed to believe everyone was completely out of their fucking mind. "Honestly..." she drawled, picking off the side of the cupcake and eating it. "I don't not believe anyone, you know? I mean, something happened and I walked in on the tail end of it. I don't know what it was but it was strange." She made herself comfortable and hoisted herself up onto the counter, smiling sweetly as she sat on the edge. "Why would the entire building lie about something like fables? In any case, I don't mind being prepared so I'll just wear my protective penis amulet from Thailand."

She giggled. "I'm teasing, baby, don't look so shocked." Although she really did have one!

There was always the possibility that she was lying simply to placate the mentally unstable person, but her tone wasn't condescending and he was fairly confident in his ability to tell when someone was putting on an act. "Something definitely happened," he agreed, even though it was a gross understatement to refer to time travel as 'something'. When Gabby pulled herself onto the - his - counter he barely blinked, although inwardly he sighed. She certainly wasn't shy.

Protective penis amulet? She said it so casually that Bran took her seriously for a moment, his expression mirroring his surprise. What the hell was that supposed to be anyway? "Right. I'm not sure how much good a... protective penis amulet would do you here anyway. Garlic and crucifixes would work better... and maybe a sword." Or a gun, really. Not many things were immune to bullets.

"Hey, don't knock the power of the penis amulet," she warned playfully. "It's palad khik, which means 'honorable surrogate penis.' Men and boys usually wear them riiiiiiiight - " She touched the spot on Bran, as a demonstration - it was just about where the obliques were, also one of her favorite places on a man. Om nom nom. "Here! And they attract and absorb any injury directed toward the groin. And sometimes three are worn at the same time to increase gambling luck, to attract women, and for invulnerability from bullets and knives. So...maybe you should look into one. But, hmm. Can you tell me what happened?" Gabby asked, crossing one leg over the other. Her dress was riding up on her thigh a bit, but that was what made the whole 'hot girl sitting on a counter' look complete.

"It actually exists?" Now he was clearly skeptical, although it might have been a weird Buddhist thing, which would explain why to him it evoked the image of something you'd find in a sex shop. Even though he wasn't really a fan of physical contact - he was trying to work through his issues - he barely reacted to her touch save for a slight, almost amused smile. "Sounds interesting. I think I can manage fine without one, never mind three, but you might want to suggest these penis amulets to some other men in the building. They could use it." Not that he had any interest in gambling or becoming some sort of playboy, but if he did then he wouldn't need a surrogate penis to help him.

"Sure. Believe it or not, we were sent back in time." He paused for dramatic effect before continuing. "I ended up in revolutionary-era France, but other people ended up in 1920s Chicago and Russia, apparently."

"Of course it exists," Gabby laughed, her hands gripping the edge of the counter. "Not that you have any trouble getting lucky, I'm sure - luck related to both gambling and women, I mean. But I'll be sure to recommend any to the poor souls in need." She cocked her head slightly, listening. "Time travel! That is fascinating. What on earth did you do in revolutionary-era France? And do you all regularly get...sent to random places?"

A devious smile spread across his face as he thought of a perfect candidate for Gabby's penis amulet recommendation. It was almost childish, really, but imagining the look on the poor man's face would make his temporary lapse in maturity completely worthwhile. "I think I know who you should start with. Our resident Inspector in 401 could use a little luck - especially with women." Bran had no idea if it was true or not, but considering how obsessed he was with the law, it probably was.

It wasn't as difficult to talk about as he thought, and it was almost unsettling how matter-of-factly he could discuss time travel and fables. "Well, we weren't quite welcomed by the mobs of angry French people... but it wasn't too bad. Normally we all just become fictional characters once a month, but I guess the building likes to change things up every now and then." He watched her expression carefully, waiting for her to abandon her calm curiosity and denounce them all as insane.

Gabby pursed her lips in thought, one foot doing a happy dance in the air as she pondered over which Inspector needed a penis amulet. "Oh, him," she said, tossing some hair over her shoulder. "I talked to him a few times. He probably does need one. I also have a few charms with mae takian tree powder in them. It's good for love." And protection from evil, dangerous things.

Being accosted by mobs of angry people didn't seem like very much fun. Hopefully that wouldn't happen again. "So what do you do when you become...your character?" she wanted to know. "Do people just...I guess I'm just trying to figure out how fictional characters fill the time here."

"He could stand to loosen up a little." Even if he didn't take such cruel pleasure in tormenting Luther, the fact that he was practically a humanoid robot couldn't be denied. If a penis amulet couldn't help him relax, well, nothing could. For a brief moment the prospect of a love charm was intriguing, but he wasn't opening himself up to the barrage of questions that would follow if he asked for one. "The penis amulet, and the... mae takian tree powder charm thing, do they actually work?" He doubted it, but he was curious to know if there was any proof - personal or otherwise - involved.

Bran shifted his weight from one foot to another, considering the question. "Most characters try to find others from their stories. Others... well, you can imagine what Dracula does to fill his time." He shrugged. "It only lasts from sunset to sunrise, but most of them manage to stay inside the building. During the last one we were all locked in our rooms - you can probably still find the voice posts on the forum." Erik had not been pleased about that, he recalled. "Cupcakes would probably go better with something to wash them down," he observed, not missing a beat as he swiftly changed the subject. "Would you like something to drink?"

"Needs to loosen up a little? Is that the pot calling the kettle black, Bran, darling?" Gabby asked with a winning smile and twinkling eyes - such a charmer, was she. "And as for if they work or not, well...it depends on the skill and charisma of the one putting the magic into it." She wiggled her fingers a bit, playfully. "Do you believe in magic?"

At the drink question she nodded, recrossing her legs. "Yes, please! Whatever you have is fine. So do you search for the ones from your story? And Dracula sounds extremely charming." Good lord! She hoped there wasn't a Frankenstein.

Bran started to retort that he did not need to loosen up, but stopped himself just in time. Denial was never very convincing, and it would only make him appear even more tightly wound than he really was. He wasn't the most relaxed person, but at least he didn't nearly have a stroke when someone mentioned placing friendly bets on a stupid soccer game. "Well... only a little. I'm making progress," he added with an uncharacteristically innocent smile. There was a time when he would have scoffed at the idea of magic, but now it wasn't as easy to do. "I don't know. Once I would have said no, but now I can't discount anything."

He stalled by pawing through the fridge and emerged with two bottles of soda - people liked that, right? He wasn't one for entertaining guests - before answering the question. "Well... one specifically. You probably know the story of the Phantom of the Opera, right?"

Awww, how adorable was dark and mysterious Raven?? "Self-improvement is never a bad thing," she said. "And with Dracula running around, in different time periods even, magic doesn't seem like much of a stretch to me either," she winked. Her magic was a part of her now, something that gave her a new focus while in Thailand. Therefore, Gabby believed that all of her charms and amulets worked, and she planned to get better at using them - hopefully to the point where she didn't need them to make shields to protect herself and the people she decided she liked.

The mention of the 'one character' made her nose crinkle. That must mean there was a Christine in this building. Bleh. "Of course, I've read the book in both English and French, though the French was for a class I took in college." She watched Bran, a smirk crossing her features, and she ensnared him by hooking one leg around his waist to tug him closer - just so she could get her soda of course! Which she took from his hand with a smile. "No one tells the story of a man obsessed with a weak woman quite like Gaston Leroux," she went on. Though the Twilight books seemed to be a poorly-executed version of that concept. Bleh again. "It's a wonderful story, though very sad."

He didn't know too much about self-improvement, even though he had been trying lately - but what good was it if no one believed you in the first place? Lotte thought he was nothing but a liar, and he didn't have enough faith in her to believe that she wouldn't tell anyone else. There was still that little spark of hope that she might not, but it was probably inevitable - that didn't mean he wasn't planning on confronting her about it if he found out she had been turning people against him, though. "Nothing seems like a much of a stretch anymore," he said dryly. Once upon a time he'd been cynical, but becoming a fictional character was enough to open anyone's mind.

Bran currently wasn't overly thrilled about Christine either, and he was beginning to think it would be a lot easier if there wasn't one in the building at all. Just because he understood how Erik felt didn't mean he agreed with it. He took a gulp from the bottle to swallow his bitterness, nearly choking when her leg hooked around his waist. His initial reaction was somewhere along the lines of what the fuck?!, but he managed to translate it into a slightly too-tight smile. "Yeah, it's... alright. I guess I'm a little biased, considering who my fable is. Around here he's not very popular - they even put up flyers warning people to keep their 'hands at the level of their eyes' a while back." He rolled his eyes. They had a fucking vampire and a wolf running around, but a man was dangerous enough to earn flyers. Typical.

Whoops! Gabby hadn't meant to cause a choking scare, but she knew the Heimlich maneuver and if absolutely necessary, would perform mouth-to-mouth on Bran, the Hottie Biscotti who was also the Phantom of the Opera. What the hell was that Christine girl's problem? So the Phantom was kind of out there, so what? He just needed a lover with a slow hand!

Oh well, more for her. "You had fliers dedicated to you? How archaic. Didn't they used to do that for witch hunts?" she asked. "Advertise?" Guh. How revolting. The thought gave her the creeps. "I think there's some good in everybody," she said, brushing a piece of invisible lint off of his shirt, fingertips trailing down. "And I don't feel like keeping my hands at the level of my eyes," Gabby teased. "That's just silly." While it was tempting to just rip his pants off, she refrained and kept her hands to herself, ceasing in their smoothing of his shirt, and going back onto the counter. "But you know! You should come over for dinner sometime. Obviously."

Well, obviously!

Surprisingly enough he wasn't as annoyed by Gabby as he thought he would be, although he couldn't quite put his finger on why that was. Either way, he was willing to allow and even go along with whatever little game she was currently playing. Just because he didn't flirt often didn't mean he was completely clueless. It was a matter of feeling like putting in the effort, really.

"I wouldn't be surprised if they did." A hint of a scowl passed over his features before disappearing, still unable to forget that it was Lotte who'd revealed there was a Phantom in the first place. No wonder people were afraid - she made him sound downright terrifying. His gaze went briefly to her hand trailing down the front of his shirt before snapping back up to her face, an amused smile tugging at his lips. She was entertaining, at the very least. "Not much can get accomplished by walking around with your hands at eye level, that's true." Dinner was an entirely different matter, but he couldn't come right out and say no.

He'd just tell her yes and back out later if he had to. "Obviously," he echoed. "Thanks for the offer. I think I'll take you up on it sometime."

"Oh, good! You'll let me know, then?" Gabby said, regarding dinner. She smiled, genuinely, and reached up to ghost her fingertips across his forehead, sweeping his hair away from his eyes - a tender gesture, kind and gentle. Sometimes her actions mirrored her fable more than she realized, and probably wouldn't notice even after she figured out who she was. "I'm not a psychic, but I'm pretty sure you haven't had something decent in awhile?" No one could resist the lure of a homecooked meal! And she truly wanted to make sure that he ate something decent too. Men were so...inattentive to their digestive tract sometimes. Meals that rotated in the microwave, ew? Not that she had much room to talk, given her past indiscretions, but had made an effort to take better care of herself.

"Anyway, I'll let you go for now," she decided. The other hand went to his shoulder, and she leaned in and kissed him lightly, eyelashes fluttering as she hopped off of the counter. "Thanks for having me over, Dark and Mysterious Raven."

"I'll let you know," he promised with a nod. While lying had become an integral part of who he was, he did have his moments of honesty every now and then. If this visit had been bearable, then how much worse could dinner be? He was fairly certain he had her figured out, even if her touchy-feely demeanor kept throwing him for a loop and it was a struggle to keep his surprise hidden. He had experience with women, sure, but not so much with affection. "You're pretty perceptive. I'm not exactly good with a stove." His was mainly for show, and the food he lived off of even made him cringe sometimes.

Bran had managed fairly well through the entire visit, but a kiss was the last thing he expected and it was all too clear that it caught him off guard. "It was my pleasure," he managed, doing his best to regain even a scrap of dignity as he followed her to the door. "It was nice meeting you, Gabrielle."
