A hot shower and clean clothes made a world of difference, when it came to feeling more capable of facing reality. Admittedly, Sherri still didn't quite feel up to the conversation she and Nina would be having, but it had to be done, and once it was over she didn't have to worry about it any longer (except for that favor she'd probably been stupid to promise Nina, but she wasn't thinking about that). She'd spent most of her first day back worrying about what to do with the clothes she'd been wearing, the necklace she'd found - she figured it was probably powerless, outside its own time, but she hadn't wanted to check and ruin the magic. Mostly, she'd spent the day worrying about Joss, which was a full-time job in and of itself, in her opinion. By the next day, Sherri was afraid she might actually worry herself sick this time... or maybe that was just left over from France.
In spite of the fact that she really was dreading the conversation with Nina, getting some fresh air was wonderful, even in the heat. She looked at least a little more put-together than she had when Nina had seen her before (not that it would take much), and that helped her convince herself that she was totally capable of dealing with whatever was going to happen, no matter how many guns or dead people were involved. She'd convince Nina that she was no threat, and then she'd get back to all the million other things she needed to take care of.
On second thought, maybe she shouldn't convince her too quickly.
Mentally scolding herself for even the thought, Sherri leaned against the side of the building and breathed in air contaminated by car exhaust, not the scent of rot. Ah... so nice to be home.
