In A Corner With A Plant
It took Bernadette a moment to realize where she was, but slowly it dawned on her that she was in the lobby of the apartment complex, and that there was a great number of people around her. People she certainly did not recognize.
She paused for a moment, then breathed a sigh of relief when she heard no mental commentary. The voice of the man that had plauged her for the last several days was silent at last, and she could feel some the tension leaving. Ordinarily she might have suspected a very elaborate dream, but the filthy, crude coat and scarf she was wearing spoke otherwise. Quickly, she took the wretched things off--it was far too warm for such wear anyhow, and Bernadette started to straighten up her hair with her fingers as she glanced around the room. Had everyone else been through some surreal experience as well...? And how on earth had it even been possible?
Bernadette knew one thing--that dinner party was going to have to happen more quickly than she'd anticipated, and second of all, she wanted a very long, very hot bath.
