James’ dismissal of Bran’s threat had silenced Lotte. Her throat hurt from the protests that she couldn’t bring herself to say and she only gave one forlorn glance, when she was left outside the building. Why didn’t James get it? Didn’t she understand what would happen if Erik was out and around them? What he would do to her and Christine? Neither Lotte or Christine were happy about it and couldn’t keep away the fear that came with it.
Unlike the last time she’d been left alone, Lotte kept her head down and only looked up when she heard a noise from the building Bran and James had ducked into. She kept close to the wall, ignoring anything else. If something bad happened, she was sure she’d heard it – and then, maybe, she could run if need be. (Going in to save either of them wasn’t an option; if there was trouble, it meant that they couldn’t help her. How could she help them?)
When she finally heard their footsteps returning, she pushed herself from the wall, body tensing. “Find anything?”
