Lotte had never liked shutting down and being quiet, but it had been a survival technique from when she was younger. Stop telling people about the voices and they wouldn't think you as crazy - stop trying to be something other than the youngest child in Valerie's house and life would be easier. It applied easily enough now. She stopped talking, mouth shut unless it was to give Bran a short answer. At least she had Christine to distract her - the other girl was inquisitive and at least good at keeping her mind off bad things. Memories were passed back and forth, pausing for clarification on certain issues - had he really looked like that? had she really said that on that day?
It kept her mind off what was around her and the fact that despite the little she'd eaten before, she was still hungry and her mouth felt dry. Her eyes glanced stayed on Bran's back as he led the way through the streets, not wanting to see the bodies on the ground. They were worse now - few had clothes and most had been trampled afterwards. Each glance at them was enough to make her want to heave.
Christine was a bit more curious though - and Lotte could readily admit, she was somehow braver. She pushed Lotte to look around on occasion, still in hope that somehow Raoul would show - or maybe Brian or Lucas from before. It was on one of those sweeping glances, to appease the voice in her head that Lotte saw James. Before she could stop herself a hand went to Bran's arm, tugging at his sleeve to stop him.
"JAMES!" She didn't care about who looked in the street - people weren't attacking now and reuniting was common. Lotte took off, pulling up her skirts as she did so. "James- James - Oh god, you're here." Once close enough, she threw her arms around the other woman, hugging her tightly.
