Re: Late Evening "Oh, fuck me sideways," Max groaned internally.
This phrase clearly confused Hyde, who hesitantly asked, "Wouldn't that be painful?"
Max demanded that he get Jekyll next time. But whining would have to wait, because the girl that Brian knew was coming towards him and he had to think of something. Quick. Does he impersonate Jekyll or Brian? Jekyll would be hard, and he knew that this curious little girl with her narrator fable would start probing him about his life. And he didn't want to dance on eggshells tonight.
So he resolved to impersonate Brian again, and the next day, Jekyll could just inform him that he (Jekyll) had impersonated him (Brian) so as to not make the girl uncomfortable. That seemed like a nice thing to do, because clearly Jekyll was such a stand-up guy.
As she touched his back, he resisted the urge to smack her hand away. Putting on a smile, he turned to her. "Hey!" he said quietly. "Yeah, uh..." He paused, remembering that he had to mimic Brian's slow, plodding speech. "I ended up in a big desert." He frowned, scratching his chin. "How long have I been gone? It wasn't dark before."
