Vlad raised his eyebrows, regarding Javert with a mixture of curiosity and surprise. It wasn't very long-lived, however, and he began to wish he was being questioned alone. Coming up with one story was a lot easier than three. "Fine. Then we... come up with something else. We're all just visiting - they want spies for the Tsar, not foreigners. Say you were robbed in the crowd last night, since there were certainly enough people." Would they be believed if they claimed not to know one another? Was it too much of a coincidence?
"Are you insane? They will shoot you, and even if we manage to get out unharmed, then they will have reason to be suspicious. Just let me do most of the talking, and try to play dumb when they do ask you questions. We are nothing more than acquaintances who were curious about the arrival of the former royal family and didn't realize we were too close to the palace. If we say it convincingly enough and make it clear we have no loyalty to the Tsar, then they should let us go." He frowned at Daniel, knowing they didn't have much time. "They will not kill us. Alright?"
