Somewhere between the speakeasy and the diner, Theo had acquired a hat. It wasn't as nice as his hats usually were, but it matched his suit well enough and he felt much better with something on top of his head - something about the pressure, the doctors had decided when he had gotten in trouble at school for refusing to take his hat off. Something sensory. Mostly Theo had ignored their opinions, because really he just liked hats. And it was amazing what sort of things people would drop while fleeing the police. He had reasoned with the help of his friends in his head that he was really doing whoever it was that had dropped his acquisition a favor by removing the last bit of evidence of his presence.
Eventually, when he had gotten tired of wandering the streets looking awesome, and realized at last that it was cold outside, he'd decided the diner looked like a good place to stop. He looked around inside, and started to head for a table of his own when the voices piped up again.
There's plenty of room at that table, he shouldn't be keeping it all to himself, you know.
Maybe he's got... tea...
And we do need a fourth, the new voice said.
Theo pursed his lips, confused. But there were four of them...
Four is three, and three can't tea. It's not tea with Time, but it is time for tea.
Well, if they said so. Theo strode over to the booth where a single man sat, and slid in the opposite side and smiled. "What a wonderful day, don't you agree?"
