GROUP DELTA PLOT POST
This post has comments turned off. Please direct all plot-wide questions here and all Group Delta specific questions here.
READ THIS POST THOROUGHLY. It explains the first three days of the plot and what will be happening in them, as well as the setting your characters have been transported into.
Arrival/Day 1: THE RAID (Friday, June 18 - Saturday, June 19)
It's February 12, 1929, in Chicago. Prohibition has been in effect for nearly a decade now, though in the rowdy speakeasy your characters are in, the booze is flowing so cheerfully you'd never know it.
A band is playing on the stage to a cluster of tables full of glamorous men and women. There is a crowded bar off to one side and a room beyond the main stage through a door that appears to be a smoking room of some kind. There is a tough looking bouncer standing just outside, however, so whoever is in there must be important.
Your characters are dressed in the raiment of the era: suits for the men, and expensive evening dresses for the women. They will find their hair coiffed appropriately, and themselves dressed perfectly in the style of the period.
And it's a good thing they blend in with the revelers. They will arrive in the speak at 12:01 AM. At 12:50 AM, the police will burst down the front doors to raid the place.
The police have something to prove. The corrupt system they work within only allows them to do so much, and raids are key to maintaining any kind of public image. They will smash furniture, tear through private rooms, and treat any criminal activity they find with a heavy hand.
Your characters' coats and furs, heavy for Chicago's biting winter just outside, are in the coat closet if they decide to try to grab them before fleeing. As things are, the women are going to be particularly chilly if they decide to flee the nightclub with nothing else on, since it's about 20 degrees outside, there's an inch of snow on the ground, and they're in heels. Ah, being a dame.
If your characters stay in the nightclub, they will be searched and sent outside toward the police cars. As long as they walk calmly past the officers outside, they will be free to go. If, however, they run, they have two options: they can run out the back, which will leave them in an alley adrift in a foot of snow but afford them a glimpse of Big Al himself as he flees toward his armored Cadillac, or they can run out the front into the police officers there and be swiftly arrested. They will remain in jail until the plot update on Monday. Only 5 characters can go to jail. Those five characters can volunteer in the questions post.
The raid will be structured thus:
The raid log will have three comments in it to thread off of -
PRE-RAID MINGLING: For partying between 12:01 and 12:50. You may start as many threads off of this one as you like (considering that we have 16 characters in this group, we're not all going to be able to get into one at once, so go ahead and mingle and let your characters adjust.)
DURING THE RAID (Non-jailed characters): For your characters to either flee out the back way or to wait to get searched and calmly walk out the front.
JAIL THREAD: This thread is ONLY for the five people who volunteered in the Group Delta Question Post to go to jail - those five people will use this thread to flee out the front and get caught by the police. They will then be jailed in two group cells (one for the men, one the women) until Monday, at which point the plot will be updated.]
The structure of the post will be that of a party post, with one exception: your characters can only be active in one thread at one time. So you can’t be partying in two threads, or partying and also running from the cops. If you need to bow your character out of a thread so that you can move them ahead to midnight, do so! Treat everything like real time - you can’t be in more than one place at once in reality, can you?
The arrival post will remain active until this time tomorrow night at which point comments will be shut down, so keep those tags short and move along at a good clip, kids.
Days 2 (Sunday, June 20, {IC Date Feb. 13 1929}) and 3 (Monday, June 21 {IC Date Feb. 14 1929})
A newspaper report will be published in the morning after the raid listing the names of those arrested in the raid, thereby letting their compatriots know where they are. They will not, however, be allowed to visit their friends in jail, or be able to communicate with them in any way, nor will the characters in jail be able to break out.
Your characters have twenty dollars each in their wallets and purses. A cheap hotel room is about $4 a night, so if they want to stretch their money they may want to room with someone else.
Assuming your character has not been arrested, they will be free to roam Prohibition-era Chicago. Everyone seems tense because of the ongoing gang war, but there's still lots of work - Black Tuesday is still six months away. Your characters will need to spend the next two days finding temporary work in order to buy food, or procure it any way they know how. There are a few greasy spoons around the speak where your characters might choose to find work - maybe they’ll even find work in the speak itself, helping with repairs after the police smashed their way through. It’s up to you. You may move only as far ahead as that third day. There will be another post on Monday night to update the plot. Once your characters are out of the raid, however, log to your heart’s content!
Keep in mind that your characters will have their fables present in their minds at all times during this plot, and can transform into their fables if they choose to do so. If they choose to do this, they will return to normal at dawn the following morning. See the previous plot posts for more information.
