"But we're right," Micah said. He hadn't been raised in a democracy, and this notion of juries and trials and murderers walking free, it just didn't sit well with him. If Trenton could lie and get off, what was going to keep others from doing the same thing? Micah wasn't stupid enough to think communism worked in practice, but he wasn't so sure this form of justice did either, and it showed all over his face as he handed Cole the key.

He had more faith that Cole would do the right thing, in that moment, than he had in himself.
