Thinking back on it, he wasn't sure how or why he'd thought keeping someone locked up down here was a good idea. It was impulse and revenge that had led them here, but when he tried to think of other options nothing came to mind. The real police wouldn't have done anything, and if he confronted Trenton about it on his own it wasn't likely that he would have confessed. Maybe doing nothing would have been the best route, even though it would have been hard.
