He didn't know about Boyd's rape, but since she was there and had probably been unconscious, 'the girl' couldn't have referred to anyone else.
Even now Cole didn't have the intention of killing Trenton, but he had the knife for a reason. If the man wanted to fight them, then he wasn't opposed to some excessive force. Not now. The police wouldn't help them, and if this was the kind of justice they were left with, then it would have to do.
He only flinched slightly when the door splintered, but at least they had the element of surprise. For once he wasn't afraid or worried - he moved forward automatically, past the broken wood and what was left of the door. The owner of the apartment held more interest than the actual apartment itself.
