She didn't try to contradict what he said, because she believed him. There wasn't any doubt that he'd do this on purpose to hurt her. Diego was safe and she could feel that he'd take care of her - which was what made it that much worse. Her tears kept coming, even as he spoke, her whole body shaking with sobs. It just wasn't fair that she kept losing the people who made her safe - it wasn't fair that the ones who did stay, were only going to get hurt.
"You can't-" She shook her head, crying harder. "I've got work and I have to keep him safe." Her hair flew loose around her face, as everything built up. Too much had happened recently; this simply was the final straw in terms of keeping her chin up.
