The second her eyes began to tear up, Diego felt his heart break. He didn't get to meet many genuinely sweet, good people in his line of work. It pained him to see one hurting, especially because he contributed to it.
"I'm afraid so," he said, watching her for a moment. On impulse, he reached out, gently taking the wrist of the hand she pressed against her cheeks and pulling it close. Holding her hand in his, he gave it a reassuring squeeze. "I did not mean to upset you. Especially after this problem you are having with your friend. And you must trust me when I say that I will miss you terribly."
