Her shoulders relaxed visibly as she heard his question. He was some steps away and the light wasn’t as good as it could be, but she refrained from flashing her light at him. He sounded familiar and it did wonders for her nerves.
“Indeed, I am.” She took a few steps closer to him, pulling her hand out of her pockets to give him a more proper greeting. “I take it you’re my partner? I’m—” Her words faltered as she finally was in front of him, able to take a good look at the man. “Doctor Seward,” she breathed softly, her voice less like herself and more like her other self. It seemed so strange to see him again, their terrible prior meeting running through her head at that moment. She realized she was staring and she turned her head down sheepishly, her face growing hot.
“Forgive me,” she said quietly as she took a moment to get her bearings back before lifting her head. She managed a warm and proper, albeit small smile on her face, and held her hand out for a shake. “I’m Helena. I believe we haven’t properly met.”
