Nick wished he could believe that, he really did except nothing in the world was going to work the way they needed it too. He reached up to smooth back Evie's hair and quietly, "He was going to leave me in a hospital and leave you alone. It's not okay."
He rarely allowed himself to be mad, but this was an exception. Evie had never even seen Nick mad in years. He pulled back from Evie and slammed his fist on the door frame. "This wasn't supposed to happen!" his voice raised in volume again. "Stupid Jack. He said it'd be okay and...I fucking hate him." The swear and vitriol felt awkward and strange coming from his mouth, but as he raked his hand through his hair he was feeling a little better about it. No wonder Evie swore so much.
