“No one should unless you’re connected to their story,” Lotte mused out loud. For a brief moment she considered extending the invitation but it was immediately shoved aside. The whole point of staying with Meg was that Erik shouldn’t get jealous of it, unlike when she was around Raoul. “Or if you leave your apartment. I did that the first time-” She shook her head, feeling more than bit foolish. “Maybe remind yourself to stay in your apartment in the note.”
She shook the flashlight one more time, before looking to him and his flashlight. She followed the beam to him for a moment, before stepping forward to take it. There wasn’t a smile – she was too embarrassed to attempt that now. As she took it the beam trained upwards for a moment on his face, before sliding downwards and away. “Thanks – it was stupid to not be prepared.” She bit her lip for a moment, still holding her flashlight in one hand. She lifted it once, doubting it would fit in her pocket.
“Would it be okay if we stopped at my apartment? I’ll just toss this dead one inside and we can continue the watch…Or I could look for my batteries so you could take yours back.” Lotte bit her lip, not moving up the stairs until he did. She wasn’t going to leave him alone on the stairs, even in terms of a few steps, after all.
