Helena took a deep but quiet breath as he insisted that this was his to handle. It was, she couldn’t argue with that. But Dracula was a great force to be reckoned with. If there was something she could do, she wanted to help. And if he couldn’t fulfill his promise, she didn’t want him to shoulder that blame alone. “Hopefully with less property damage.” She too couldn’t help but recall how badly they had torn up Daniel’s home. That did raise another point though, where they would stay this next moon.
Even if he didn’t say it, he didn’t need to, for Helena knew that it must have been difficult for him as well with her skirting around him as much as possible. She hadn’t meant to set them back so and she turned her head to nuzzle his cheek. “I promise I’ll be better about this next time.” She couldn’t control Dracula or anything that he did, but hopefully she could try to temper Mina’s worries. So she wouldn’t be so upset that it spilled over to Helena afterward. “Am I forgiven? Or must I spend more nights in the guest room for penance?” She knew it was her unspoken decision to sleep in the guest bedroom but she was ready to try again, to move forward as she had said, and she wanted him to know she was ready to try. Their conversation had lifted a good amount of weight off of her shoulders, even if it gave her little answers and a few more questions. But more than anything, she wanted to get back to the way they were before the moon. They had been so happy, or at least, she had been.
That reminded her of her conversation with Ella just days earlier and once more she paused before deciding this was as good a time as any. “I do have a question for you. Completely unrelated to this topic, if you don’t mind.”
