"I'll always be one step ahead... or ten." He laughed, and for the first time in at least a week it was genuine. Maybe staying inside with his thoughts of death and the macabre was a worse idea than he'd thought.

He can't help what his fable is - and I guess when the Wolf is injured, he's not so bad either." It had still been a dangerous thing to do, since wounded animals were often more prone to attack in defense than healthy ones.
"You know, Vasilissa's going to need to be locked in her room at this rate. She's going to end up getting you killed - what if you run into the Headless Horseman?" Cole bit his tongue as soon as the words slipped out, mentally berating himself for being such an idiot. "I mean-- there are all sorts of dangerous tasks the Baba Yaga can ask her to do. Avoiding her would probably be best."
