When the man leaped up, Daisy shrieked, staggering back until her calves hit her coffee table, and she fell hard onto her bottom. Then she roared with laughter, doubling over as she gasped for breath.
"No, you didn't do anything--" The words came out broken and wheezing as Daisy waved a hand at the man, as if he were the hysterical one and she was calm. "I heard--something...and I thought it was...construction?" Opening her eyes, wide and innocent, she appealed to the man before screwing up her face. "I didn't mean to...scare you."
