The Wolf was paying Watson no real mind. One man in the shadows was inconsequential compared to a giant cat roaring in his face. He let loose a throaty bark, hackles raised and fur on end, making himself as big as possible.
He assessed the risk. There was a giant cat who, admittedly, could likely take him in a fight. He was injured. And something at the back of his mind was pulling him up short at the idea of actually jumping on the girl and just killing her before the lion could interfere.
He cast a look her way, clinging to the side of the stairs like it was dry land in a flood. If he was further injured, a suspiciously human voice in his head pointed out, he couldn't very well tear the Witch apart for what she'd done.
After a long, long pause, the wolf offered a final warning snap of his jaws toward the girl, and backed off a few steps, back up the stairs.
