Tegan had tried to explain to James and Tommy what was going to happen, but it was hard to know whether they actually believed her or not. She tried to distract all of them with a story, doors to the apartment locked, and the three of them gathered in the boys' shared room. Tegan knew it wasn't her best story ever, as she kept looking out the window and waiting for something to happen.
And it did.
She had finally started to lose herself in the story she was telling, and it was that which she noticed changing first. It took on a different turn, pirates appearing and mermaids swimming past. She watched as her brothers became lost in it too. James (or was it John?) and Tommy (no... Michael) both watched her with rapt attention. After long minutes, the story completed, she helped tuck both of them into bed, even though something seemed to be wrong with that. John never went to bed this early. But she kissed both their heads, and snuck out after turning off the light.
The rest of the house seemed strange to her, and she wondered for a moment where her parents were. Where Nana was. And why her bed wasn't in the same room as John and Michael, like it always was. Tonight was a very strange night, Wendy decided, and gathered her long nightgown around her legs as she slipped into her own room, quietly getting ready for bed.
