That made him pause, because even though he wasn't afraid of what might happen - not when he was Dracula or otherwise - he was afraid for her, because he knew she wasn't as capable of defending herself as he was. She couldn't do the things he could, the kind of things that made him such a figure to be feared. He could threaten and hurt and even kill without hesitation, but not Helena. He was glad that she wasn't tainted like he was, but still, it meant he constantly worried about her safety. "For now, you have nothing to fear. Nothing will happen to you while you are with me."
Vlad shifted her bag to his other hand and laughed, unable to keep it back as she approached the dogs that were often met with so much fear when he took them out. In a way, Cain and Abel were a lot like him - they were capable of being the snarling beasts people imagined, and yet they could also be as gentle as puppies. He knew they liked Helena, their wagging tails and lolling tongues proof enough of that. "I suppose it has been." She was here in an entirely different capacity now, but he didn't mind one bit.
"You can unpack now, if you like, or later." He didn't mind either way, although it was slightly strange, since he wasn't used to having someone else live with him. Boyd had been different - she'd made herself right at home before he could even say a word. "While you are here, Helena, feel free to treat this like your own apartment." He knew she wasn't the sort to snoop around or anything like that.
