While the rental agreement records show that 1002 has been paid up through the end of the year by one Vaughn M. Davis, the woman proved impossible to track down. Over the course of a week, there was no movement or sign of life when Detective O'Malley came knocking. On the second day, he jotted a request that she call him on the back of one of his business cards and stuck it in the seam of her door. On day five, it was still there.
He contacted Vaughn's place of employment, the local high school, but they admitted to not having seen her in well over a month. She simply stopped signing up for substitution shifts one day and never returned their calls. Airport records show that she'd flown to Zurich around that time, with an authentic passport, but she'd also returned two days later.
Her criminal record wasn't impressive or even interesting by inner city standards. An assault charge that was later dropped by the prosecution at request of the plaintiff. A speeding ticket in Indiana six years ago.
