Daniel, fortunately, shook out of his shock once they actually got to the hospital and Boyd was wheeled out of his sight. He stayed very close to Rosalie, a darker, nervous shadow to her pale face and hair, but he was the one that was able to answer the questions. Considering the nature of the injuries, Daniel didn't understand why the questioning became so harsh until about halfway through, when he realized they were asking him probing questions because the overdose wasn't the only problem. He did not tell them they had ever been intimate, instead claiming that he and Rosalie were friends and neighbors, and they'd found her--together, a slight lie--in the hall to his house. They weren't sure what had happened before they found her. That was all he gave them.
Finally they moved away, and Daniel sat down on one of the waiting room chairs and put his head in his hands.
