Who: Russell Wagner and OPEN.
What: Trying to find the source of the signal.
Where: Starting at the seventh floor and moving around.
When: Not long after the conversation between himself and Iris. Let's say around 8pm or so today.
Warnings: PG for possible swearing.

After having spent who knows how long trying to break into something that should have taken him no longer than a single bag of Doritos (and not the fun size, mind you), for Russell it was nice that he could do something that didn't try to outwit his superior intelligence. He meant it when he mentioned to Iris that he'd rather do something stupid like commit seppuku instead of admitting there was something technological outside of his own capabilities.

So here he was outside his apartment, ipod charged, heaphones on, dressed in the appropos spy regalia of a black hoodie, black shirt, dark jeans and black converse, saying out loud in a bad Sean Connery accent, "It looks like the game's afoot, lads." In one hand he was holding what appeared to be a Nintendo DS lite, but in face was a modified tracker so he could find the source signal for where the videocameras sent their information to.

With only song set to repeat on his playlist, Russell cued up tonight's theme msuic tried to be as surreptitious as possible, moving around and pretending everything was totally cool and kosher while routinely checking to see if the signal was getting stronger. In the meantime, even thought Russell thought he was moving around like that one guy from that game, his movments were actually looking more like that one guy from that one movie. Entering the eighth floor, Russell slowed his movements, noticing the signal was close. Ish.

It had been a long day. And not a normal sort of long. A tortured sort of long. Five tramp stamps, two hearts, and a hip tattoo. It made Joanie want to rip her hair out and give up. Of course, she felt this way often, so she shelved the feeling and focused on getting back to her apartment without killing a random passerby.

As she jogged up the stairs - she found the trip to be more fun if she convinced herself that it was healthy exercise - Joanie began to notice something strange above her as she neared the seventh floor. Pausing at the landing, she leaned over the banister, looking upwards to see what appeared to be a monkey having a seizure on its way up to the eighth floor. She raised a brow. That was interesting.

Against her better judgment, Joanie slowly climbed the stairs, peering skeptically after the bizarre moving object until she reached the eighth floor's landing. She paused, looking out into the hallway to see a gangly young man dressed in black and decked out with a video game console and headphones. For a moment, she was going to just walk away - she didn't need to be exposed to any more weird radiation. But she caught a glimpse of his face.

It was Blackbeard.

Snorting, Joanie walked over to the young man, tapping him smartly on the shoulder as if this were a perfectly normal thing to do. She inclined her head towards the Nintendo DS with a smirk. "Is this your way of getting exercise? Video games on the go?"

Russell had been so caught up in his little acts of espionage, he didn't envision or fathom the idea that anyone could even see him, much less catch him in the act of spying, that the shoulder tap surprised him in a sad way, barely suppressing a manly shriek, instead gurgling while jumping just a little bit, turning around to see--oh thank Chief Sarge-just Green Girl.

"Gr-Joanie! Hi!" Russell responded a little too enthusiastically, closing his 'DS' with a snap. "Oh you know me, I gotta burn off those red bulls somehow! Otherwise I'd be all fat like those putrid abominations in WoW am I right? Haha." His voice was a little more high pitched than normal and he seemed a bit twitchy, himself moving from side to side, his feet twitching along in response. "Don't you have homework or something to do?" Go away Joanie, he silently urged.

Suddenly, the fact that this kid had been a pirate seemed a thousand times more out of place. Watching him gurgle and jump like a schoolgirl getting prodded was actually entertaining, and despite herself Joanie snorted with laughter.

Though she had never been fantastic with people - one can never imagine why - Joanie had been to enough family reunions and sessions of temple to be able to somewhat tell when somebody was nervous or hiding something. She had observed so many conversations between family members wherein everybody was fidgeting and plastered with false smiles, each hiding something from the other.

Raising a brow, she watched him squirm a bit, his voice resembling that of a high schooler going through puberty. Now she knew that gamers were childish, but this was something else. As he began to chatter slightly about losing weight and then asked about her homework - thank God she was done with that stage of her life - Joanie rested both hands on her hips, fixing him with a suspicious gaze. "So did you finally kill one of the "n00bs" in your game for "realz," or are you just breaking your five o'clock curfew?" She glanced around the floor, vaguely recalling that this was the floor they had gone to on The Night Everything Went Crazy. She shuddered slightly, pushing the thoughts away. "Because you're acting weirder than before, and that's saying something."

Bah! Russell could be the best pirate there ever was. He'd sail the high seas, wear a bandanna, commandeer awesomer ships, basically everything that was cool and minus the other stuff like seasickness.

And that look was one he had been on the end of so many times, his mom always smart enough to figure out when he was being sneaky (well, attempting to be that is). "Nah I'm not that good, though there was that Beserker game that killed two guys who played it. If I had a five o' clock curfew that'd be special, since I don't live with my parents. No enforcers for me!" In the back of his mind Russell realized that he wasn't really doing anything to get Joanie to end the conversation and leave. He could have said something mean or rude but she might punch him and frankly she was actually fun to talk to. Not the time to burn bridges. Still, the 'DS' in his hand reminded himself that he was on a mission (OF ESPIONAGE) and as such, needed to at least try to shoo her away. Hm, now What Would Bond Do?

"You know, I know you were all pissed about being green and stuff, but you shouldn't worry about it, I thought it was cute on you." It was added with a bit of a smile on the end to seal the deal.

She rolled her eyes as he cheered about not living with his parents. "Yeah, yeah, good for you," she replied dismissively. What was he, twelve? However, his response made absolutely no sense, and she had no desire to pursue it. Maybe he really was just that weird. After all, he had sent out a forum post asking for "the green girl," especially after how bitchy she had been to him that night. So clearly, he was a little soft in the head. And yet, she still enjoyed talking to him. So maybe she was the weird one.

Just as she was about to think on this more, he brought up The Night That Everything Went Crazy. Eyes widening, she stared at him vacantly for a moment, feeling a wave of dread. Why the hell would he bring that up like that? Was he retarded, or just -

Oh. He was retarded.

Her face flushed with rage all the way from her forehead to her chin, and even her neck was tinted scarlet. "What did you say?" she hissed, though they both knew she had heard every word. Rhetorical questions were just scary. "I thought I told you to never, ever mention that shit again!" She stepped closer to him, her shoulders subconsciously squaring. "It wasn't funny the first time you brought it up, and it still isn't funny!" She stepped forward again, swiftly this time, and crowded him just slightly. "Is that all you have to say to me? That I'm green, is that fun for you?" Gritting her teeth, she reached up with both hands, shoving him firmly in the shoulders before pulling back. "Well fine. Have fun with your little nerd friends in your little nerd game!"

With a slight huff, she turned her back on him and stalked towards the stairwell. He was such an ass.
