It was true - maybe it was a disadvantage, but he doubted he'd ever be able to strike a woman, even if it was a life-or-death situation. "Of course I wouldn't. I don't hit people in general, but only cowards strike women." There were other words he could have used, but it wasn't a topic he wanted to talk about. No one would be hitting her, especially if he had something to say about it; end of story.
Cole raised his eyebrows, abandoning his attempts to sit up straight and leaning back against the couch. It wasn't as if he could move her off of him even if he wanted to - which, incidentally, he didn't. "I'm not sure if he'd be able to start much, considering I'd probably just fall over after one punch." For some reason the mental image made him laugh, even though it would mean quite a bit more pain for himself. "He has a date with his 'princess'? Does that make him a prince?"
He studied her for a long moment, finally relenting. "Okay. I know you can handle yourself, but I still don't like being the reason for the tension between you two." He returned the kiss with a small smile. "I hope you're right. If he's willing to meet me without causing bodily harm, I think I might manage to make a good impression. Clearly something about me impressed you, right?"
