Deirdre threw a glance over her shoulder as she headed toward the kitchen with the bottle of wine. "I think none of us were quite ourselves, sir." She studied him closely for another moment before turning away, her voice carrying from the kitchen. "Unless you would all have me believe that there are wolves and beasts living in the building all the time."
Her voice slipped around his accent, picking up a vowel or two the way it always had when she'd traveled with her parents, not always noticeable as it was so slight. "It's no intrusion. If it were, there were several points at which I could have avoided having you here."
She came back from the kitchen, wine bottle open in one hand, empty glasses in the other. She placed everything on the coffee table and gestured toward the sofa and chairs. "Have a seat if you'd like. The wine still needs a moment before pouring..."
