“I wish we could know something about here,” Ileana said. “But I feel like the more we’d find out, the less would actually make sense.” The whole building was beginning to feel like a giant puzzle, but for every piece that they had thought they figured out something else would throw everything askew once again. She hated not knowing how to deal with everything; even more that it was affecting people around her.
She could put on a brave face, but vampire attacks and threatening letters were enough to send a chill straight to the bone. The part that made it the worst, to her, was the fact that they were all in this together and she doubted anyone would believe them. At least, she surmised, it could be worse and be the only person weird things were happening to. It kept her from feeling like she was going to lose her mind.
It helped, also, that she had Cole. Their slow steps towards turning a friendship into a relationship was surprisingly becoming an anchor of normalcy in her time spent at Bellum. While she told him he was her hero, she wasn’t sure if he had taken it to how true it had been. There was so many different ways her Saturday could have ended – kept safe by Cole was the best of the scenarios she played in her mind. She practically melted against him when he returned the kiss, smiling as he pulled back. Resting her head on his chest as she cuddled close to him, “We’ve got a deal then. No more vampires and wolves.” She teased a little, “I don’t think my doll can save two of us.”
