Trying to keep track of her story was getting hard, and he kept track of stories for a living. Taking another swig of his beer, John shook his head. "Doesn't sound dumb." It sounded hard to understand. She wasn't talking like a crazy person, though; he had seen his fair share of crazy and crazies didn't talk like she did.
"Don't got anything to hide," John said around the mouth of his beer bottle. He eyed it. It was almost half empty and it wasn't even six. "Just don't got much to say." He gave her a little smile. "But you should work on figuring out who you are, shouldn't you? Instead of being concerned about an old man like me." Yes, that sounded sage and wise and worldly. He was brilliant.
