His head snapped to the side when he heard the sound of something falling down the chute, and he leapt into it. It wasn't until he was almost all the way down that he saw the shoe, and he hit the water with a loud splash.
If he hadn't been angry before, he was now.
Three minutes later he was back on the first floor, soaking wet again and edging closer to exhaustion. He wasn't there yet, however, and like hell was he going to give up now. This girl thought she could trick him, get away clean. He wanted to hear her scream, taste her blood when he tore her throat out, and when he caught her scent at the bottom of the stairs he began climbing again, fast as he could manage.
