"Anyone up?" she whispered, even though she intended to shout. But she knew it was shameful to be returning home so late, especially after an evening with man not of her three familiar suitors. She closed the door behind her and lifted her delicate, expensive skirts, hoping to mute the rustle of silks and satins. Kiki knew she should be more worried about the expensive boots she was wearing, but her feet were now in dainty satiny slippers, so that problem was solved. She was, clearly, too drunk to remember anything.
