She ducked her head under his chin, and she snuggled against him. He felt safe to her like this; like he wouldn't let anything bad touch her if he could help it. It contrasted so sharply with the constant feeling she had that he needed caring for, and it confused her with its dichotomy.
"I know it ain't just me. If you found you another wolf, you'd be just fine," she said with a sad smile. It was a teasing thing, but there was truth to it too, she knew.
"I wonder what we'd be like if things had been different."
