Pete was seriously about to throw up in his mouth when his wife started coddling Kiki, it was completely ridiculous. He'd never seen anything so ridiculous aside from his four year old cousin throwing a temper tantrum because someone made her clean her room. It was appalling that she'd behave the way she was behaving and even more appalling that his wife would condone it and then give him a look like he was being unreasonable. As far as he was concerned he was the one who was going out of his way, missing work, and cooking breakfast for them. He was the one being inconvenienced by an unannounced house guest and her dog staying at his house for God only knew how long. But apparently, he was in the wrong. This person sitting by their window was treating everyone worse than the scum on the bottom of her boots that could probably feed about half a dozen Haitian orphans with how much they cost and his wife was just encouraging it. She'd scold him until the cows came home, but apparently when it came to super bitch over there she had no backbone at all. Great. This was going to be a great visit.
As far as he was concerned it was bad manners to be a guest in someone's house and behave like their hospitality was putting you out. He was taking a drink of coffee when Kiki actually deigned to speak to him and he waffled back and forth for a split second on whether to even respond. His skin prickled a bit when she called him Pete. It wasn't that he minded too much, he just didn't know her like that and most people called him Peter. Pete was usually reserved for good friends, family, and Lena. He debated correcting her, but figured his wife would just give him another look and he wasn't interested in fighting with her this morning. He did however make a mental note to cease and desist all overly polite gestures like cooking, if Lena wanted to baby a grown woman, that was her problem. He was just going to make every effort to stay at work as long as possible.
He had no response to the fact that Vlad was Kiki's ex, for some reason it both surprised him and didn't. He honestly didn't care, but the thought of her showing up at his job for any reason was enough to make his stomach turn. "I write contracts, call people and holler at other people on their behalf, you know...Lawyer things." he said doubting that when she asked 'exactly' that she really wanted to hear anything about the details of contracts, conference calls, retainer agreements and everything else that he had piling up on his desk as he stood there suffering through this.
He finished with the pancakes and put them on a plate and did the same with the omlettes. He had completely lost his appetite and was perfectly happy with his coffee for the time being. He grabbed a couple of plates and put pancakes, eggs, and potatoes on both of them and carried one to Lena and one to Kiki though the urge to make the both of them get their own, but he didn't.
He grabbed his pack of cigarettes off the table near where Kiki was sitting and lit it feeling better already. So much for Lent. "What, exactly, do you do Kiki?" he asked taking another drag on his cigarette and fighting the urge to add "besides act like a lunatic."
