Life was hectic enough that James had nearly forgotten she'd lent her pepper spray to Lotte all of those weeks ago. Thankfully, she hadn't been relying on that and gone to reach for it in a moment of need. In fact, considering everything that had happened, James easily concluded last night that the spray wouldn't have helped her. Well, it might have helped her, but Ella might have been hurt worse in the fray if James had been able to escape on her own.
"It all happened so fast, Lotte, I doubt the spray would have made a difference." She at least tried to assure the other girl. Correctly reading the heartbreak in Lotte's poignant eyes, James dropped the sunglasses back into place. The soft light of the living room was giving her a headache anyway. James briefly wondered if she'd gotten a concussion, but remembered that she'd slept fine. And Rick would have surely noticed if one of her pupils was strangely dilated in position compared to the other; James recalled these clues because she watched way too much Discovery Health Channel.
At the mention of filing a report, she hesitated with a slight grimace. "Well, not.. exactly." Somehow, she knew that Lotte wouldn't agree with the choice she'd made.
