As he pulled an ice band, one purchased to ice down after lifting weights (which were no where to be seen), out of the freezer, he thought about her reaction to the pain of his hand on her ankle, the instant control she'd managed to exert over it. If there was one thing he knew, it was that civilians did not react to pain that way. ¿qué oculta? he wondered, and he mentally listed the professions where people were taught to manage their reactions like that. It wasn't a very long list.
When he came back to her with the ice band and a compression bandage, however, there wasn't even a hint of the speculation on his face. "I would have picked you up before the bottom," he said as he sat down again, as he gingerly lifted her foot and wrapped the band around her ankle for a moment, holding her leg still with a hand splayed over her knee. "Should I teach Mr. Marion how it's done?" he asked, waiting to see how long it took for her to ask for mercy from the cold.
