His biggest worry at the moment was that she'd changed her mind, and basically wanted nothing to do with him. She could have realized it was just a spur-of-the-moment thing, or maybe that the age difference was a bigger deal than she'd initially thought. Cole knew this was a little more than unexpected, and he couldn't even believe he was doing it himself.
"I-- I know I kind of gave that impression. That it couldn't ever happen." For a moment he faltered, suddenly not so certain if he was doing the right thing. But it passed, and he continued. "I love my job, I really do. But you could say I got a sort of... wake up call, about what's important and all that. Work and my personal life are separate, and they don't have to mix." Cole hesitated, trying to keep his train of thought. "I'm not saying that everything is going to be easy. But I'm willing to try. If... if you still are."
