Ella climbed into the front seat of the taxi, while letting Shane climb into the back with Rosalie. She asked the driver to take them to the closest hospital, and she turned in the seat. "Just to have your head looked at. Then we'll come right back home," she assured.
She'd barely had time to turn back around in the seat and get her bearings, when the cab stopped outside two sliding glass doors. The word 'Emergency' shone in bright red overhead, and Ella paid the cabbie and waited for Shane to climb out with Rosalie in his arms.
Things moved quickly at that point, and Rosalie was moved onto a stretcher and her neck immobilized. She was allowed to follow her into the Emergency Room, but Shane was asked to wait outside, and Ella squeezed his hand and told him she'd be out with an update as soon as she had one.
As she followed the stretcher (and Rosalie) back into the ER proper, she realized that they were not in the best part of town. They passed rooms with law enforcement keeping eye on prisoners, and inebriated and homeless men and women slumped in chairs in the over-occupied space.
