I like Cummings fine; I just wouldn't bother to tell him about what is, and what isn't. I think Cavafy's problem is that the mind and heart do remember, and the body doesn't bother. Otherwise he wouldn't write about it.
I've never been much of a decent poet, myself. Something about trying to arrange words in original ways bores me. Either I'm going to say it in whatever way I'm going to say it, or I won't. I don't want to bother about little things like whether or not it rhymes properly, or whether or not it's going to look right or wrong on a page. I've always been impressed by poetic patience.
